What California Landlords Need to Know About AB 628
Beginning January 1, 2026, California’s Assembly Bill 628 (AB 628) will update what’s required for a rental property to be considered tenantable under California Civil Code § 1941.1.
The key change:
All rental units must include a working stove and refrigerator — unless the tenant chooses in writing to bring their own refrigerator.
